Aerial silks (also known as tissu) is a special type of fabric that hangs from the ceiling (approximately 8 meters high in our studio) in which aerialists climb, spin, twist, drop, and contort themselves whilst suspended. It is a beautiful, challenging yet awe inspiring art form.
The Aerial Lyra or otherwise known as the aerial hoop, is a metal ring apparatus that is suspended from the ceiling. It can be used as a static apparatus or for spinning & swinging. The aerialist uses both flexibility & strength to hold amazing poises &/or dynamic tricks whilst suspended.
Bring a bottle of water & a snack.
Best attire is a leotard & tights or stockings which is usually worn with dance style shorts over the top (bike pants). However if its your first class & you don’t own a leotard then full length tights & a singlet is fine for now. We suggest a tight singlet or shirt that you can tuck in, so that when you are hanging upside down it won’t lift up on you. Leotards or body suits are a necessity when you advance to the more challenging levels as singlets or shirts tend to become hazardous as they can get caught in the silk.
We also recommend two pairs of tights or stockings to avoid silk burn on backs of knees when sliding or dropping on the silks. A long sleeved tight or close fitting top/shirt is also a must to protect your under arms from some moves, always have one handy in your bag.
Alternatively we have a new uniform range which will be available soon.
Wear gymnastic pants or full length tights/ or skins (most guys wear shorts over the top of their tights if you feel more comfortable). Wear a top that can be tucked in or is tight enough to stay on when you flip upside down! If your top is sleeveless, bring a top that can also cover your armpits (required for some moves).

Our instructors have been through stringent training of teaching and spotting techniques & undergo regular ongoing training to keep their knowledge & skills up to date. We have a regular rigging inspection and maintenance schedule to ensure our aerial equipment is safe, clean and in good repair. We also provide large crash mats to keep our students safe. All skills are learnt a ground level first until the instructor is confident that the student is ready to move higher.
